We perform the procedures of EPA Federal Reference Method 24, as well as ASTM D6886, “Standard Test Method for Speciation of the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Low VOC Content Waterborne Air-Dry Coatings by Gas Chromatography”. The advantage of this method is that it directly determines the weight fraction of VOCs, unlike other methods which indirectly determine the VOC weight fraction. This method first identifies and then quantifies the weight fraction of individual VOCs directly, so the total VOC weight fraction can be obtained by summing the individual weight fraction values. This results in much better precision for samples with low VOC content (below 5% by weight). |
